Memoirs of An Adoptive Mother’s Meltdown: Motherhood, Mayhem & Mental Health is based on true events experienced by four adoptive mothers and their children. The mothers are health professionals and educators who met and bonded over their shared experience as adoptive mothers of distressed children. The stories told here give voice to their pain, traumas, and triumphs. Their stories are intertwined but presented as experiences of one woman, Sheila. The two children in the book, Shayla and Nayla (Shay and Nay) represent all the adopted children of all the women. Their lived experiences have been united in these two characters.
This book tells the story of what happened to the children as they overcame trauma, poverty, and mental health challenges. The mothers and children discussed in this book experience varying degrees of mental wellness as they journey together through life. Their collective message is: Though you may struggle from past traumas, there can be future triumphs! A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be placed in a scholarship fund for foster care and adopted children who are accepted to a college, university, or trade school in the United States.
